Empathy in Premier Dental Care

Empathy Premier

Empathy is the basis of the design process that is focused on people and patients.

People with a greater capacity for empathy are those who know best how to “read” others. They are able to capture a large amount of information about the other person from their non-verbal language, their words, the tone of their voice, their posture, their facial expression, etc. And based on that information, they can know what is happening inside them, what they are feeling.

The basic thing to be empathetic is: – Observe: Look at the patients and their behaviors in the context of their lives. We must always try to observe from the outside without being intrusive, the best ideas come in these situations as well.

Ask and show interest

– Get involved: Generate a conversation, this can be from a corridor question, brief or a conversation in a space of trust. We prepare processes to manage the conversation and the needs. The important thing is always to ask “Why?” Since that discovers new meanings, ask once and twice if necessary … Why? Why? and thus be able to understand the needs of the patient.

As Specialists, the problems we try to solve personally the solutions based on the possibilities of our patients.

Curiously enough, in the animal kingdom the concept of empathy is very present because the survival of the species. Something like this generates that many animals and diverse species show cooperative behaviors where the classical idea of the “survival of the fittest” remains. An example of this can be seen in certain whales, capable of attacking the killer whales to defend the seals.

People who are characterized by an authentic empathy believe in social commitment. Because survival is not a business nor should it understand politics, interests or selfishness. Surviving is not only allowing our heart to pump, it is to have dignity, to respect, to feel valued, free and part of a whole where we are all valuable.
